How To Relieve Congestion Naturally and Quickly.

Having congestion in your head or chest is never fun.  Nasal congestion affects all of your senses to where you can’t breathe through your nose, your hearing may be muffled, and you can’t taste a thing, Sinus pressure can make you feel like you want to take a drill to your head to make a hole to relieve the feeling of fullness that makes it difficult to see, think, breathe, etc..  However, there is a great way to relieve congestion naturally, quickly and effectively.

In an effort to stay away from antibiotics every time I turned around due to sinus infections and allergies, I found a way to relieve the pressure of congestion that usually works very quickly in providing some relief while I rest to heal up completely.

Home hydrotherapy using wet socks is an amazing and fast-acting cure to the congestion pressure caused from sinusitis, colds and many times the flu.  This technique helps to stimulate the immune system in the upper respiratory tract and is relaxing for aches and chills as well.  It’s an inexpensive, drug free technique that has become a go-to remedy in my home for more than 15 years.

  1. Take a pair of cotton socks – 100% if possible, get them wet and ring them out.
  2. Place them on your feet (yes, I am well aware of how miserable it feels, and how challenging it can be to put wet socks ON)!
  3. Then take a pair of wool socks – preferably 100% wool if you can get ahold of them.  Place them over the wet cotton socks.  Your feet will get cold because, let’s face it, you’ve got wet socks on your feet, and you have a fever – it’s going to feel extra cold!
  4.  Try to relax and wait.  You may need to re-wet and re-put on the cotton socks a few more times because the fever in your body will heat up and dry out the socks.  As the socks dry, re-do steps 1-4 as many times as necessary until the fever breaks.

The feet begin to start warming up fairly quickly after putting the socks on, and I have found that the congestion relief can begin sometimes within 15 minutes!   It is a great treatment to use before bed to aid with sleeping by relaxing your body and relieving the congestion.  After the initial warming up, sleep usually comes fairly quickly do to the calming effect and within approximately four hours the socks should be totally dry, the feet warm, and the symptoms much improved (if not gone).  Give it a try the next time you are all clogged up and see how fast it can work for you!
